Together with the manufacturer of high-precision laser scanners API and Eleven Dynamics, the experts for automated measurement data acquisition, Neobotix has developed a robot for the automatic scanning of large objects. The measurement data from the laser scanner is merged with the precise localisation of the robot, resulting in the seamless measurement of large objects. Whether helicopters, wind turbine blades, entire cars or aeroplane wings, the robot is able to autonomously move around the objects and capture the entire contour in several stations. Until now, such large components have required a measurement specialist to work for hours, carrying out many different scans and later combining them into a single dataset.
The robot carries out the surface scans fully automatically and therefore offers excellent data reproducibility. This means that reliable 100% quality checks can be carried out even in the production of large parts. The simple graphical user interface of the PlatformPilot robot control system enables the operator to make changes to the measurement sequence after a very short familiarisation period, allowing them to react very quickly to changes in component dimensions. Obstacles are reliably avoided by the robot. Our omnidirectional robot ROX-Argo is used as platform for the scanner. Its unmatched manoeuvrability eliminates the need for shunting moves, minimising travel times and guaranteeing maximum flexibility.
